Oh, I almost understand the compressor by this lesson ) But the trick about de-essing with compressor is unbelievable experience!!! It is really worth it to watch your movies, because it really improved my knowledge in sound engineering and now I have another one technique witch I didn't hear about before! Sub'd.

I switched from an X32 Compact to an X32 Rack for exactly the reasons you describe. You need a case for the console, and then it's no longer "compact" or lightweight. The X32 Rack has the same aux ins and outs as the Compact, and only lacks proper line outs for the monitor. All in 3 rack spaces! I have it in a 4U rack bag and can carry it with one hand. I'm also a big fan of Mixing Station. I've barely scratched the surface of what it will let me do. I've mixed monitors for band rehearsals on my phone when I forgot the tablet. I know engineers who are uncomfortable without physical faders under their fingers, but I'm happy to mix on a tablet.

I find the X32 / M32 control surface supremely inconvenient to use, mostly due to the lack of touch on the screen. Too much pushing & turning & clicking to get the desired result. If I am forced to use a surface in that price category, I much prefer the Yamaha TF series (no DM series in my country yet). My own personal system is an X32 Rack, so I'm always mixing on a computer or tablet. When I'm at a venue with a full size X32 / M32, I always bring my computer & router, and mix from my computer. And speaking of routers, it isn't always even the price that dictates good or bad. I wanted something small & portable, so a couple years back, with much trepidation, I tried a tiny GL.iNet Opal GL-SFT1200. Much to my surprise, it outperforms anything else I tried in terms of staying connected at long distances, while costing a mere $35 on Amazon. It is velcro-ed upside down in to my 6U short rack case with the X32 Rack, so it's basically in a terrible position, yet performs flawlessly. If you try one out, be sure to avoid FW version 3.216, which causes continuous disconnects - apparently a bad version, but still available for D/L. It runs OpenWRT with a simplified GUI from GL.iNet. If you want access to the full OpenWRT config, then you just add a plugin called LuCI via the simple interface, and access the router via an alternate URL. I think the GL.iNet might be using a tweak in OpenWRT to push up the transmit power, because there is literally no reason this this little router should be as good as it actually is. I leave both 2.4G and 5G on, and configure my laptop & tablet to be able to access either, I've never been to a venue where I can't get a stable connection (it usually stomps on other WiFi routers in the area, which is why I think it may be transmitting a little "hot" 🤣).

You can use an X-Touch with an M32Core and get faders what way. It has been mentioned here that you can use faders wirelessly with Mixing Station too. Just cause you get an M32 Core doesn't mean that you can't use faders. I wouldn't even consider a physical console in the X/M32 formate because you can do it with an X-touch. You can even use a fader wing wiht the edit software and do it wirelessly.

You mentioned this in the video, but I’m just expanding on it a little. You can run faders wirelessly (or wired if you desire) with mixing station, so if you want to do the brain onstage and control surface in audience you can do it. I use an x-touch and x-touch extender as a 16 channel surface through mixing station. You connect the usb b from one of the surfaces to the usb A of the other surface, then the usb B of that into whatever you’re running mixing station on. The only downside with that setup is that you have no local inputs, so preshow music, etc has to be connected onstage.

I've used my android phone connected to a touch screen via Dex and an xtouch connected to the usb port of the screen thats connected with Mixing station. Worked to perfection for my needs!

i my self got the m32 Full size + DL32 stage box but for small events I use the DL32 + M32 Core it's easy with the app + u don't need to run cables all the way to FOH. If I got a big event Like a big one with multiple bands and stuff I use all I use the DL32 + M32 Core at stage + The M32 Full size at FOH to control the M32 core that way even if for some reason I get power cutout on FOH I can still use the app and my audio is still running BC it's all at stage in the M32 Core

Great video and advice as always. I ended up getting a Midas M32R. Even in a flightcase I can carry into a venue on my own. It also fits in the back of my two seat Smart car. I just prefer a physical interface. I also use an iPad to walk around and fix things. I can see why using just a rack with inputs and a control surface would be attractive though.

For me biggest con - Cost. If you have the surface mixer, you still need to buy a digital snake or use an analog snake to get your inputs from stage to FOH. Some digital snakes are just as expensive as the rack mount digital mixers.

I got the X32 Rack over the M32c, for the I/O redundancy (can use stand-alone in a pinch, but I also have the MR18), and for the controls/screen on the unit in case of router or control device failure. DL32 for that Midas flavor. Great combo! And Mixing Station is amazing, definitely the preferred/superior control app. :)

One extra 'con' is that you have no audio from the app. I'm moving away from the full size mixer as well, I recently got the m32c.

There is a little mistake in your video. at min 7 you create the buttons for the midi swap and you name them Mute swap select 1/2. Your Swap Action changes all Controls with name starts with Mute, so your Mute Swap select buttons also changing the active actions. Either rename your Mute Swap Buttons or change the batch actions to only affect controls with names starting with Mute- instead of Mute. this way you don't have to add the additional swap actions. another tip: if using batch action swap, change the action to 'only on' so if you execute the swap action a second time it does not reverse to the previous state

Is this mixer specific?? I don't see it as an option on my sq5 using mixing station.

Hi! Daniel, just wondering, how many inputs a single Midas M32 mixer can handle? Will this scenario work? - Using 2 DL32 stage box via AES A and AES B - Controlled by 1 Midas M32, so we can have 64 inputs and 32 outputs

I don't understand, so are you canceling the 5 - 6 aux outputs in the xr16? or are you duplicating it to the phones?

Something is missing or I don't understand the whole story regarding the X(R)-MR18. I understand the lesser models because internally there are 2 unoccupied aux buses that can be assigned to the headphone output. But it is not the same case with the 18, all are occupied and, reassigning or changing the aux 5 and 6 passing them to FX3 and FX4 to use them through output 5 and output 6 does not make any sense. I already have those post fader mixes, why remove them? On the other hand, returns 17/18 are internally unoccupied and I can assign them to the headphones for the outside world as 2 mono aux or 1 external aux.

Hey man I appreicate your work man.. You're videos have changed the audio of a church all the way in East Afrixa, Kenya to be specific. So I have a slight emergency here, I am using Reaper with the x32 xusb expansion card for streaming. My issue is I need to send the audio via network to another computer that streams the video for our Yiutube and television channel. The problem arises when using Voicemeeter to catch the audio I being output from the laptop connected to the x32 and a Voxengo recorder vst plugin. I cant seem to get the audio to register while on rec mode, but in lkay mode it works fine. But I need to stream live while recording if possible. I thjnk thebproblem has something to do with the fact that I cant see any action on the main master fader in Reaper while recording, after recording its fine. Can you help please?
